Downloading and Installing Red Alert 3 Tools

Hello all!

I'll be teaching you the basics of the RA3 modding. I'll divide this tutorial into parts to make it easy for you learn the basic aspects.

Part 1: Downloading and Installing RA3 Mod Tools

Are you a Generals modder that never needed a SDK to mod? For RA3 You will need one.
So...let's get started!

To mod RA3 you'll need a SDK (Software Development Kit) The SDK will give you almost all tools to get started with RA3 modding.

Grab it on commandandconquer.com/port...

I recommend you download everything there.

After everything is installed and working you'll want to start making changes! More or less... RA3, uses a programming language called the XML. In Windows computers, Internet Explorer can open the XML files, but can't edit. Notepad can edit them, but it does not look nice with all the tags. I suggest you download a XML Editor. I use Microsoft's XML Notepad, but you can use any other you may like.

Grab it here: microsoft.com/downloads/det...

Think we've finished here? Nope...
Modders like to include their custom models into the game, right? EA likes to use a program called 3ds Max. EA uses 3ds Max older versions 7, 8 or 9. Today we have 3ds Max 2010.
Inside the SDK you'll have a folder called 3ds Max with some plug-ins. EA plug-ins are used to make the program (3ds max) export your custom models in a format that RA3 will "eat" and put in game.
We'll need the 3ds Max:

Download it here: renegadehelp.net/downloads/3dsmax8.zip
Or: hit-software.info/software/3d_studio_max...

That finishes part 1. In the next parts we'll setup our 3ds Max and i'll teach you how to add a new unit to the game.

See you on next tutorial commander!

Happy Modding!
